Shenandoah National Park is one of our all time favorites near the eastern seaboard of the United States. It has a ton of amazing views, hikes, and is a key part of the always spectacular Appalachian Trail.
One of the best things about the Shenandoah’s is that it’s pretty easily accessible from some pretty big metropolitan areas. Located Southwest of Washington D.C. it’s a great way to break up the drive South down the 95 Freeway.
When it comes to sights, Shenandoah has some pretty spectacular options from waterfall treks to casually enjoying the views from your car on Skyline Drive. On the waterfalls side, try to check out Rose River Falls or Overall Run Falls.
Last time we stayed there we got a spot at Loft Mountain Campground and we really loved it. There are tons of easy day hikes, clean facilities, and friendly people all around. The only downside on our whole visit was that lots of other people love Loft Mountain too, so we weren’t as secluded in the woods as we would have loved to be.
Overall though we definitely recommend a visit to the Shenandoah National Park next time you’re on the east coast. It’s beautiful and if you don’t take a second to get off the freeway, you could completely miss it!
